About
Defying Decay formed in Bangkok in 2010 and spent a decade building an audience across Southeast Asia before the world caught up.
Their third album, Synthetic Sympathy, was released 26 March 2026 via Verge Records International / ONErpm. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios (London), NRG Studios (Los Angeles), and Studio 28 (Bangkok), mixed by Zakk Cervini (MDDN) and mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound, Nashville. The record features collaborations with Kellin Quinn (Sleeping With Sirens) and Thai-Belgian artist Violette Wautier, and a live 32-piece Thai orchestra on select tracks.
The result earned a landmark Kerrang! 4/5 alongside features in Metal Hammer UK (Issue 412), Rock Sound, FUZE Magazine, Rock Hard Italy, La Heavy, Orkus Magazine, OX-Fanzine, HardForce Hebdo, and Chaoszine — spanning 18+ countries and 70+ publications across the campaign.
Led by vocalist Jay (Poom Euarchukiati), Defying Decay sit at the intersection of hyper-pop production and metalcore intensity — creating a sound that stands apart from both traditional metalcore and mainstream alt-pop. This identity has positioned them at the forefront of a new wave of Southeast Asian artists carving their place on the global heavy music map.
Live, Defying Decay are known for tightly executed, high-intensity performances. Their touring résumé spans Asia, Europe, Russia, and the US, where they've supported Motionless In White (UK), Ice Nine Kills (UK/Europe), Skindred (Europe), Of Mice & Men (Russia), and Atreyu (US). In 2021 they became the first Thai heavy act to tour the US. In February 2026 they headlined Rock Alarm: Falling in Rock in Bangkok with a full 32-piece live orchestra in front of approximately 5,000 attendees.
Festival credits include Rock Alarm Bangkok, BayBeats Esplanade (Singapore), Summer Sonic Bangkok, MAYDAY Fest (Singapore), Hammersonic (Jakarta), Aftershock Festival (USA), Taiwan Music Fest, Vietnam Rock Fest, and Rite of Passage (Japan).
